Say Yes to (splitter) Crack!

I was shoveling through some of my footage and found this buried treasure.  It is from about a month ago at Grandmother Mountain Boulders.  I put a touch of spice into the video and this is what I came up with.   Damn it feels good to break out the editing again.  Fall is just around the corning with tons of good problems capture through the lens.  Fall can’t come soon enough!

Nuff said, here’s the video:

Commando Crack – V3 (Erich Purpur)

(Splitter Crack at the Mad Skills Wall.)

Other news:

-I’ve been pretty psyched at the dump lately.  In particular, the route by the name of “Unwritten Law” has invaded my dreams and won’t go away until I send it…That could be a while!  I also got on “Fry Cleaned” the other day.  That is a stellar line with really fun moves up top.  I would like to red point that bad boy as well.  This weekend might turn out to be a flop due to weather conditions but I think I’ll still give it a shot.

-The cubs are going downhill quickly.  I guess it’s normal for a team to be in first in their division and drop 9 games back in a matter of 3 weeks!!!  WTF?  Come on, let’s pull it together!

-Radiohead is STILL in my CD player and I have yet to get sick of them.

-I’m reading a really good book right now that my dad let me borrow.  It’s called “A Rumor of War” by Philip Caputo.  It’s a very interesting read on the Vietnam War.  I’m starting to like this reading thing.  I guess it has to do with not knowing anybody and not having cable.

Peace,

-Matt

Getting bored on the internet?

Welcome back to my b-log.   As my other friends are out crushing rocks like they work for a gravel company, I’m staring at a computer screen day after day.  Needless to say, it can get boring after a while.  In my class, there are 11 other people doing the exact same thing.  So one might wonder; how do you distinguish yourself?  The answer; The internet sites that you browse!  Wow, I’m going from half nerd to full blown carrying an operating system on my flash drive nerd.  Let me introduce you to my good friend…

The Onion's Funniest Column Writer

Herbert Kornfeld

If you guys have never been to TheOnion.com you’re missing out!  It is a satirical news site that has a really great sense of humor.  Click on Herbert’s picture on the left and it will pull up his first post on the onion.  One of my buddies introduced me to the onion but more importantly, Herbert.  When I started reading these columns, I could hardly keep a straight face in class.  I find this shit funny as hell.  It could be my lack of interaction with people that has my brain all twisted.  Hopefully it’s not just me… But seriously, check out the onion if you don’t have anything to do.

Next on the agenda:  Favorite Songs from the past couple of weeks.

  • Radiohead – Jigsaw falling into place (In Rainbows)
  • Radiohead – Bulletproof…I wish I was (The Bends)
  • The White Stripes – This Protector (White Blood Cells)
  • Beck – Corvette Bummer (Loser)

That will be all for today…

Oh, I will be in Asheville this weekend to visit family so if anybody wants to go climbing/bouldering, give me a shout…

Back to Columbia

How’s it going out there?  I hope everybody had a good weekend!  I scooted up to Boone on Friday as soon as I got out of class.  I got up to Boone and met up with my dad to grab a couple of beers at the one and only Pepper’s Bar.  For some reason, I STILL haven’t got sick of the Fat Tire they sport on draft.  On the trip up to Boone, everybody was pretty certain that the weekend climbing odds were pretty slim.  By the time I got to Boone it was beautiful weather and stayed clear overnight.  I woke up on Saturday and Mike and I went out to Ship Rock.  It was my first time at ship and it was pretty awesome.  The exposure was incredible on every single route we got on.  We mostly got on multi-pitch routes with the exception of top roping Gum Fighter at the end.  The best route we got on in my opinion was called Linn Cove Lullaby (my first 5.10a trad lead).  The rock quality was simply amazing and being up 150 ft wasn’t bad either!  I think we got in 8 or 9 pitches on Saturday so I was pretty psyched.  On the way down the trail, I felt my groin was a little sore due to all of the mantles I had to do.  As we were pulling out of the parking area, it began to rain and that would conclude my climbing for the weekend.   I don’t have any pictures but next time I will definitely take my camera with me.

I’m back in Columbia at my job training at Midlands Technical College.  This is the start of my 4th week of training.  Here is a breakdown of topics I’m learning:

1-2 Week: A+

3 Week: Network +

4 Week: Microsoft Server 2003 (Networking)

So far I’m really enjoying learning these topics.  The course design and layout is really effective. Back to class now.

Climb on…
